Magic Fix #11: Winter Walkabouts!

Winter can be a chaos maker for families! When its raining and cold outside, no one likes to be stuck indoors for long periods of time and just throw in some kids to that mix; you have the perfect storm. Most people enjoy winter by skiing, ice skating or by playing organized team sports and we are no exception to this. But with very young kids, these activities aren't always an easy option; it can be time consuming, expensive and take time away from spending it with each other.

So instead, to enjoy winter:

We eat ice cream!

We dip our feet in icy cold water!

When the sun peaks out, we run out for a picnic.

We take our indoor winter activities outside.

We go to our favorite hangout.

We stretch our limbs...

We cuddle our friends on the grass!

we kick a soccer ball around...

and take our bikes out for a ride!

We eat some junk food?

and get really dirty.
Our 'Magic Fix' for winter has been to:

  1. Have some sure fire fun outdoor places to go to that is close by to our house. Usually, a clean and sheltered beach, a grassy park(kangaroo poop free!!!) or a playground.
  2. Have our winter weekends fairly unstructured. This way, whenever the sun peaks out, we run out the door.
  3. Have plenty of winter gear and equipment for activities packed in one box. One has to be quick to take advantage of any sunshine.
  4. Plan for one activity only. We either take long walks along the beach, play soccer on the grass, ride our bikes or take a long way bike ride/walk to the playground.
  5. Have snacks and drinks packed and ready to go.

Winter might get dull and dreary sometimes but not our spirits. Now that spring is here, we miss winter!!!!!
